Day 34: Presentation Visual Aid Content

Lesson Objectives: Students will be able to:

• Analyze and evaluate slide content for how much content is necessary
• Develop strategies to minimize slide content, but maximize information for the audience
• Create slide headings that are brief but effective in communicating the overall takeaway point of the slide
• Create and practice the use/role of note cards in presentin

Preparation: Students should come to class with their topic and slides created.

Substitute Notes: Jin, you can cover as much as you think is needed in this lesson and I will cover the rest inf the following class. Please save 5-10 minute on the end of class to have them sign up for presentation times in the Google Doc provided. 

[5 min] Warm-Up Review

To review the last lesson, work in small groups to complete the document titled, Stages of a Presentation Scramble. Be prepared to share your answers with the class.

[15 min] Part I: Slide Titles + Workshop

Slides 4-9 cover the lecture content and sample. After the lecture, I will have you work in workshop to make adjustments according to the content learned.

[15 min] Part II: Parallelism

Slides 10-13. Here we will learn the concept of parallelism and how it should be applied to presentation slides.  

[5 min] Part III: Charts and Graphs

Slides 14-18. In this part of today’s lecture, we will look to some sample charts/graphs and decide if and/or what may be useful with our presentation topics.

[10 min] Part IV: Text Amount/Style

Slides 19-23. You will work in groups to compare how 3 slides present the same ideas but in different formats, bullets, full sentences, and paragraph. What is the best method for your presentation points?

[10 min-] Part V: Signing Up For Presentations

A: Discuss in Pairs/Small Groups
 To end today's lecture, I would like you to take time to converse in pairs discussing the content that you "say" versus the content that you will "write" on the slides. Share with each other your ideas and ask questions. You will be presenting to them so this is an opportune time to understand your audience.


B: Practice with Notes Cards/Slides

To end today’s lecture we will start to practice presenting on our topic. To begin, we will work for 10 minutes to build notecards that correspond to our PPT. Then we will present in small groups of two or three. Remember, DO NOT READ. Reading creates false intonations and not engaging. Good Luck!
