[15 min] Part III: Identifying Plagiarism/Paraphrasing
Thus far, we have discussed summary writing as a means to integrate a source into our papers. For this part of today’s class we will focus on paraphrasing. Please refer to the handout titled, PARAPHRASING and pay attention as we go through some major elements. Notice that failure to paraphrase correctly commonly results in plagiarism.

As a class, we will be submitting our work to Safe Assign on Compass to assist us in avoiding plagiarism. We will do this for all of our major writing assignments this semester (approximately 3-4 times). PLEASE do this or I will be emailing you. *students need to put their name, UIN, course title/section, instructor name, and semester/year at the top of the first page of their file. Your First Summary is due next Wednesday. If you finish early, please email me and I will give you feedback first.
